Story
The story begins with a man named Boyce who looks directly at the viewer and says what they’re about to see is not a happy fairytale. Earth has turned into a wild, lawless, and dangerous wasteland called the Lost Lands. In this world, a group called the Church keeps order under the rule of a leader named Overlord. A witch named Gray Alys is being hanged by The Enforcer and her followers from the Church. Gray Alys uses her magic to trick a man into helping her escape, but The Enforcer kills the man and then hunts Alys down.
Boyce is the only one in the Lost Lands who is not hurt. He walks through a tunnel, expecting an attack. He uses a two-headed snake as a weapon and shoots the enemies before continuing on. Gray Alys finds shelter with an old, blind woman. The Queen, who is the wife of The Overlord, and Jerais, who is the head of the Overwatch, visit her. The Queen asks Gray Alys for help, and Alys agrees, even though she doesn’t like being asked for help. The Queen needs a werewolf’s power for the next full moon, and Gray Alys is told to kill the wolf and bring back its power. Jerais secretly tries to stop the Queen, thinking it’s better for her in the long run.
Gray Alys uses her magic to enter a shapeshifter’s mind to find him. The Queen is not happy with the sick Overlord, who is about to die. Gray Alys meets Boyce in a bar and asks for his help to find the shapeshifter. The creature is called Sardor, which means “Grey Wolf.” The Enforcer is working with The Patriarch, who is secretly planning to take over The Overlord and the Queen, even though he claims to serve them. The Patriarch orders The Enforcer and her followers to capture Gray Alys, get a confession, and then kill her.
Gray Alys and Boyce start their journey through the Lost Lands, where Boyce meets his old friends Ross and Mara. Boyce and Mara have sex before he continues with Gray Alys. The Enforcer captures and tortures Ross and Mara, trying to find out where Gray Alys and Boyce are. The group was supposed to go to Skull River, but they kill Ross and take Mara instead.
Boyce and his friend look for Cyrus, but they find he was hanged by the Church. Gray Alys and Boyce find The Enforcer and her men, but they block Gray Alys’ powers with their eyes. The Enforcer kills Mara to hurt Boyce. Gray Alys and Boyce are attacked, leading to a fight and a chase to an air tram, where most of the enemies fall to their deaths. The Enforcer cuts the cable and fires at Boyce, but Gray Alys uses her magic through a sniper lens to save him and escape.
Gray Alys and Boyce face monster-like creatures while they travel. They get trapped in a ring of fire for protection, and they meet a monster leader who knows Gray Alys and doesn’t like her returning. She uses illusion magic to make the monsters think they are on fire. Gray Alys warns Boyce that she is dangerous and not to be trusted.
The Queen kills The Overlord, revealing she is pregnant with Boyce’s baby. The Patriarch announces the Overlord’s death but secretly plans to kill the Queen. The Enforcer attacks Gray Alys on a train with her men. She escapes through tunnels and heads toward the end of a broken train track, which is high up. Gray Alys is rescued by Boyce, but The Enforcer and her men die when the train crashes and explodes. Jerais kills the Patriarch to protect the Queen and then starts a relationship with her.
On the night of the full moon, Gray Alys and Boyce reach Skull River. Boyce is revealed to be the shapeshifter pretending to be Sardor. Under the moonlight, he turns into a wolf. Gray Alys defeats Boyce with silver claws, making him unable to fight. Boyce returns to his human form, but Gray Alys admits she knew he was a shapeshifter and poisoned him with silver. She kills Boyce under the moonlight, skins his body, and then buries the remains.
Gray Alys brings Boyce’s pelt to the Queen. Jerais says she failed him, but she tells him she gave him what he really wanted, which was the Queen. The Queen knew all along that Boyce was a shapeshifter, so she wanted to become one too. She accuses Jerais of trying to kill Boyce and kills him. The Lost Lands are now in rebellion after the Overlord’s death and the Church’s fall. The Queen flees as Boyce’s fur burns in the sun. Boyce comes back from the dead and seeks Gray Alys, wanting to kill her. She believed just as strongly in his return as she did in the coming rebellion. Boyce and Gray Alys team up to survive and hunt in the Lost Lands.
